Welcome to the Chemistry 118B Workshop page.

15 April 2008: If you can't make the workshop or want to review something that was presented, you can view videotapes of Chem. 118B Workshop sessions. Most of this sessions were filmed in the spring of 2003, except the first 3 or 4 videotapes. These 3 or 4 tapes which were taped the spring of 2004 . The 3:10 session and 4:10 PM sessions are the same material. Be sure to look up the material by subject title and date to be sure you have what you want. We have artificially dated the videotapes made this quarter so that they will be in proper sequence with last year's tapes. You can view the videotapes at two different places:

the Media Distribution Lab at 1101 Hart Hall (752-2911)

The Resource Room in the Learning Skills Center at 2211 Dutton (752-7854).

The hours for the Media Distribution Lab. are:

M-Th:	8 AM to midnight
Friday:	8 AM to 6 PM.
Saturday:	Noon to 4 PM
Sunday:	Noon to 10 PM

The hours for the LSC Resource Room are:

Monday to Friday:	9 AM to 4:50 PM.
Saturday & Sunday:	Closed.

Electrocyclic Reactions: Conrotatory/Disrotatory for Chapter 14 Dr. Lieven's and Dr. Beal's students will find these pages useful, although they do not need to know about HOMO and LUMO orbitals for the Electrocyclic Reaction systems. After learning what your professor teaches, you may want to use the following summaries (written oringinally by Dr. Shen for Chapters 11 through 18) as secondary sources. Most professors usually follow your text closely. NOTE: A very few reactions in these outlines are not in your text.

Chp. 12 Summary Note: a few + and - signs, as Nu^- in this handout should be shown as superscripts, but they are not. Also, the ROOH in section VII should be ROH.
Chp. 13 Summary Please note that the reaction with Wilkerson's catalyst in this summary is not in your text, so ignore unless your professor gives it in lecture. Please ignore the reference to alkenyl cuprates and their coupling reaction with RX (section VIII of this outline), unless your professor discusses it. This reaction is not in the text.
